NOVA University Lisbon is a Portuguese public university, created on August 11, 1973, comprising nine schools located in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (Lisbon, Oeiras, Almada and Cascais). Assuming the mission to serve society through knowledge and innovation, NOVA intends to assert itself more and more as a real 21st century university: global and civic. With truly international teaching and research, in its quality, agendas and partners, NOVA is deeply committed to the development of society, culture and economy of the Greater Lisbon region, where it operates, but also of the country, of Europe and of Portuguese-speaking countries, reinforcing centuries of common history.

NOVA University Lisbon is the 8th best university in Europe and among the 50 best universities in the world under 50 years old, according to the QS Top 50 under 50 ranking, which assesses criteria such as reputation and internationalization. As a young European research-focused University, founded less than 50 years ago, NOVA has succeeded in the most prominent rankings. Within this group, NOVA systematically ranks in the top 10, as witnessed by the 8th place in the QS top 50 under 50 ranking, 8th place in the Multirank, and the 9th place in the QS World ranking.
